About Me
My name is Chiper and I am a maker from Transylvania.
I focus on honest craftsmanship — work shaped by calm attention, respect for tradition, and a quiet sense of playfulness. My approach is deeply influenced by martial arts philosophy and Japanese design, where balance, restraint and purpose matter more than excess.
I wasn't a carpenter by trade and I didn't learn from a master. In the beginning it was a real challenge. I spent countless hours watching skilled woodworkers, reading and — most importantly — learning by making mistakes. Slowly, piece by piece, I learned.
It didn't start as a business. I was going through a very difficult period in my life and needed something to keep my mind busy. With just a few tools around the house I started making lamps — not as a business idea, but purely for the joy of creating. No goals. No expectations. Just therapy through craft.
For two years I gifted my work to friends while slowly improving my skills. Then I opened my shop — and it became my therapist and my safe place.
Each project feels like a meditation session. I learned to understand the wood — to feel its rhythm and respond with patience and care. I still do. (And somewhere along the way I keep reminding myself — it might be time to return to martial arts.)
Since discovering Shoji and Kumiko six years ago I have been creating lamps, nihonto holders and a wide range of wooden projects. Every piece is made with love, assembled with care and sent to people all over the world who value authenticity, tradition and a mindful way of living.
Transylvania is where I work. The rest of the world is where my pieces live.
