This simple yet delicate design reflects traditional Japanese aesthetic sensibility. The lattice pattern has been used for centuries in folding screens and Kumiko transoms, valued for both its beauty and meaning.
The open square pattern is traditionally believed to offer protection and to symbolize wishes for health and prosperity for future generations. Lattice designs also represent authority and tradition and have been widely used in historical architecture. Today, this timeless pattern can be found in modern Japanese-style homes and restaurants.
Each wooden piece is carefully cut, beveled to the correct length and angle, then hand-fitted and glued into the panel. The panel is backed with original Kozo rice paper, creating a soft, diffused light.
The frame is made from European walnut, while the Shoji pattern is crafted from pine wood.
