Modern Kumiko Lamp

This lamp brings together the timeless precision of traditional Kumiko craftsmanship and a clean, modern design that feels at home in any interior—Scandinavian, minimalist, contemporary, or modern—while remaining perfectly suited for traditional homes and dojos.

For this piece, high-quality walnut burl wood veneer was used for the first time in my work. Known for its rich, organic swirls and natural depth, walnut burl adds a distinctive elegance and a unique character to every lamp, ensuring that no two pieces are exactly alike.

With a height of 55 cm (21.65 inches) and a width of 31 × 31 cm (12.6 × 12.6 inches), the lamp can be used both as a floor lamp or a table lamp. It comes equipped with a 2-meter textile cable, making it practical as well as visually striking.
 
At the end of the Meiji period, Japan sent cherry tree seedlings to the United States as a symbol of the two countries’ friendship. Cherry trees, which are beautiful both as they bloom and as the blossoms fall, are known throughout the world as the flower that symbolizes Japan.
As shown by the children’s song “Sakura,” the Japanese people have lived their lives with a special sentiment towards cherry blossoms for a long time.
This feeling has been incorporated into kumiko since long ago.
